Malé, Maldives – Finance Ministry of Maldives informs that 1796 employees working in the health sector have been affected by the August salary mix-up and the government is working to retrieve the surplus amounts.

The Finance Ministry states that the discrepancy in issuing salaries due to errors in the salary sheets was brought to their attention at 19:45 on 31 August 2021.

While some of the employees in the health sector received significantly larger amounts than the actual salary, some received less due to the mix-up. Some employees working in hospitals and health centres received over MVR 70,000 according to local news Mihaaru.

Finance Ministry has advised employees to refrain from using the surplus amounts while the discrepancies are attended to. The Ministry also says that reviews are being made to ensure that such errors are not repeated.
