Malé, Maldives – The Ministry of Health on Monday, extended the state of Public Health Emergency declared due to global pandemic COVID-19, for an additional month.
In the directive signed by the Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem, he stated that there is still a danger of the virus spreading and advised to continue the steps being taken in order to control the spread of COVID-19 until 1 October 2021.
With this, the Ministry of Health has decided to extend the state of public health emergency till September 1st.
State of public health emergency was declared for the first time in Maldives on March 12, 2020, under Section 33 of the 7/2012 Public Health Act, over the COVID-19 pandemic for a period of 30 days. Following this, it was continuously extended as the threat of the virus has not been eliminated.
In the past 24 hours, the country recorded 152 new cases of Covid-19 taking the total number of active cases in the country to 1730. Maldives has also resumed vaccination efforts with 383,620 individuals inoculated with the first dose and 302,182 fully vaccinated.
