PPM successfully concludes mass event “Addana” in Malé

Malé, Maldives – The opposition coalition with Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) on Friday night, has successfully concluded their “Addana” party event.

The event was hosted at the carnival area in Malé. While huge numbers of people showed up for the gathering last night, this is the biggest such political gathering hosted by a political party in recent years.

This is also the first event since Covid-19 restrictions were imposed, preventing such mass gatherings. The protective measures highly restricted such political activities in the area.

While the opposition coalition hosted the gathering last night, leader of PPM and Former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayyoom is currently serving a 5 year sentence after he was convicted for money laundering and is currently confined to his official residence in Malé.

The event was held to call to free former President Yameen. The speakers also highly criticized India in Maldives claiming that India will enslave Maldives in the future.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Friday, confirmed additional 179 Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours. In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 179 cases, 42 were from the Malé area, while 120 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also revealed that 17 new cases were found from operational resorts, leaving 1,966 active cases in the country.With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Maldives has reached 81,653 out of which 79,448 patients have made full recoveries, as of September 3rd, 2021.
