COVID-19: Death toll rises to 227 as islands dominate new cases

Malé, Maldives – An 80 year old Maldivians man admitted at Hulhumalé Covid-19 facility passed away on Monday increasing the Covid-19 death toll in Maldives to 227.

While the death is recorded in the greater Malé area, the Covid-19 cases recorded on Monday in the islands are more than twice the amount in Malé area.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) also revealed the addition of 120 Covid-29 cases in the Maldives. It was detailed that out of the 120 cases, 30 were from the Malé area, while 70 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also revealed that 20 new cases were found from operational resorts, adding upto 2,064 active cases in the country.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Maldives has reached 82,099 out of which 79,795 patients have made full recoveries, as of September 6, 2021.
