COVID-19: Death toll rises to 251 with fatality from Fuvahmulah

Malé, Maldives – A 79 year old Maldivians woman admitted at Gnaviyani Atoll Covid-19 facility passed away on Wednesday increasing the Covid-19 death toll in Maldives to 251.

Maldives continues the trend of higher number of cases from the islands with 107 new cases recorded today.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) detailed that out of the 107 cases, 24 were from the Malé area, while 74 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also revealed that 09 new cases were found from operational resorts, adding upto 1,613 active cases in the country.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Maldives has reached 91,650 out of which 89,774 patients have made full recoveries, as of 1 December 2021.

With the classification of the Omicron variant by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 7 African countries effective Sunday. The President has also announced booster shots for frontliners this week and for the eligible population starting mid December.
