Prosecutor General indicts Fahumee and two others for May terror attack

Malé, Maldives – Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has decided to prosecute Fahumee Ali, Mohamed Nazim and Ishaq for the May 6 terror attack targeting Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

The PGO has filed multiple charges against the suspects at the Criminal Court of Maldives under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Charges against Fahumee Ali, Hudhuruvaage, GA. Villigili include the participation in a terrorist attack under Article 4(b)(i) and (ii), 4(c), Article 6(a)(ii) and (c) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Mohamed Nazim is charged for planning and orchestrating a terrorist attack under Article 4(b)(i) and (ii), 4(c) and Article 7(a) and (b) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Ishaq, M. Udhehige is charged for transporting explosives under Article 4(b)(i) and (ii), and Article 12 (a) and (c) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

In addition to the three suspects disclosed today, the PGO is prosecuting four others; Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed 25, Ali Mujaaz Ahmed 21, Ali Thahumeen Ahmed 32 in addition to Ali Haisham.

The IED explosion went off around 2020hrs on May 6, leaving Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed critically injured while he was getting into a car near his residence Kenereege in Galolhu Malé City. In addition to the Speaker, three more people were injured from the explosion including the Speaker’s bodyguards and bystanders.
