Malé, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to depart to the United States next week to attend the 76th Annual Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
This 76th Annual Session of UNGA is a historic debate for the Maldives, as the Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdulla Shahid becomes the first Maldivians representative to chair the assembly as the President of the UNGA.
While President Solih is set to address the UNGA on 21 September 2021, the assembly consisting of 193 member countries opens today.
The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, 21 September 2021 with the Maldives President speaking third in the debate lead by the US and Brazilian representatives.
President Solih was the first Maldivian Head of State to address the gathering in the past seven years when he first addressed the UNGA during the 74th Annual Session in September 2019.
