Malé, Maldives – 491 doctors and nurses of IGMH have signed and submitted a petition to the President sharing various concerns.

The petition highlighted Civil Service Commission’s decision to discontinue promotions in connection to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Spokesperson of the President’s Office Mabrook Azeez said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is examining the petition with relevant stakeholders and will provide a solution for the issues faced by the medical staff.

The petition demands to reinstate the civil service promotion structure that was discontinued in March 2020 due to the pandemic. However, Spokesperson Mabrook states that this is to be rectified as the financial status recovers.

Mabrook also said that the concerns on salaries and promotions of Maldivian doctors, and human resources arise from a framework established in 2014.

The president is currently discussing the issues shared by the doctors with the Finance Ministry and has pledged to also fix the framework in a near future.
