Addu City, Maldives – Addu City Council has stated that the security at Hithadhoo flats is increased amid the increase in violent crime in the area.

Speaking to local news Mihaaru, Moolekede Councillor Ahmed Saeed said that in addition to increasing security, other avenues are also being explored with regards to the Hithadhoo flats.

The isolated location of flats are said to be a factor in the rising number of violent crimes in the area leading to fear among the residents of the flats.

Ahmed Saeed said that the lack of Police officers in Addu City is a major challenge in providing security to high risk areas such as the flat. To combat the lack of human resources, Addu City Council is exploring options to install CCTV cameras in the flats.

With the increasing number of complaints by flat residents, the council is looking to install CCTC cameras next week.
