Minister Abdulla Shahid said on Sunday that he is confident that both countries can reach new heights in the China-Maldives bilateral relationship in a video message to celebrate the 72nd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The Maldives Foreign Minister delivered a video message at the virtual reception held by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to mark the 72nd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the assumption of Office by H.E Ambassador Wang Lixin on 6 September 2021.
In his message, Minister Shahid extended greetings and good wishes to H.E. Xi Jinping, President, the Government and the friendly people of China from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the people of Maldives. Minister Shahid also congratulated Ambassador Wang Lixin on assuming her post as the new Ambassador of China to the Maldives.
Bilateral relationship between Maldives and China are founded on the Maldives commitment to the One China Policy, and our shared values and principles of equality and mutual respect.

Minister Shahid expressed his gratitude for the support extended by the Government of China to the Maldives during the most challenging times of COVID-19 pandemic, by donating vaccines and other medical equipment to Maldives efforts to curb the virus. Minister reiterated that Maldives will continue to work with China in the international arena on issues of mutual interest and looks forward to further strengthening the bilateral relationship that exist between two countries.
Minister concluded his message by stating that he looks forward to working closely with Ambassador Wang Lixin and he is confident that both countries can reach new heights in the China-Maldives bilateral relationship.
The reception was attended by the Foreign Secretary, H.E Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, Secretary Multilateral, H.E. Dr Hala Hameed, Additional Secretary Javed Faizal and Senior Officials at the Ministry.
