Malé, Maldives – Communication Authority of Maldives (CAM), today, stated that the reduced internet rates will be announced by telcos latest by Friday.
Speaking to local news Mihaaru the CEO of CAM Ilyas Mohamed said that the authority is discussing the latest preparations to announce reduced mobile internet rates with the two telcos Ooredoo and Dhiraagu.
Both Ooredoo and Dhiraagu have previously stated that internet prices will be changed as announced by the government in May 2021. The telecom companies were given until 1 October 2021 to implement the reduced prices.
Technology Ministry stated in May 2021 that the data allowances are set to increase by 20 percent.
Speaking at a #netuheyo function on May 27, the CEO and Managing Director of Dhiraagu Ismail Rasheed said that the internet is now connected with all aspects of our life and that it is essentially important for the development of a tropical country such as the Maldives. He reassured that Dhiraagu will fully cooperate in implementing the new regulations regarding the internet.
In addition, the CEO of Ooredoo Najeeb Khan also reassured at the same function that Ooredoo will full cooperate and that the company will not stop providing internet to every nook and corner of the country.
The telecom companies were given until 1 October 2021 to implement the reduced prices.
