Malé, Maldives – Maldives has surpassed the 900,000 mark for tourist arrivals as of 10 October 2021.
The Ministry of Tourism revealed that Maldives recorded 905,817 arrivals to date in 2021. While this is a drop of 29.9 percent compared to the same time period in 2019 before the pandemic hit, the arrivals this year are a whopping 122.5 percent compared to the arrivals in the same duration in 2020.
The top source market for tourist arrivals is India with 23 percent arrivals. Russia follows second with 19.4 percent while Germany stands at third with 6.3 percent. Other markets for the Maldivian tourism industry include Ukraine, Kazakhstan, USA, United Kingdom, France and Spain.
A number of countries have greenlighted travel to the Maldives including the UK and Italy opening more opportunities for the Maldives tourism.
