Maldives welcomes over 800,000 tourists first half of 2022

Malé, Maldives – Maldives has surpassed the 800,000 mark for tourist arrivals as of 28 June 2022. This is half the forecasted tourist arrivals for this year.

The Ministry of Tourism has forecasted 1.6 million tourist arrivals in the Maldives for the year 2022.

The Ministry revealed that the island destination recorded 805,986 arrivals as of Thursday. While this is a drop of 1.5 percent compared to the same time period in 2019 before the pandemic, the arrivals this year are a tremendous 96.5 percent compared to the arrivals in the same duration in 2021.

The top source market for tourist arrivals is India with 14.8 percent arrivals. The UK follows second with 11.9 percent while Russia stands at third with 10 percent. Other markets for the Maldivian tourism industry include Germany, Italy, USA, France, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and Spain.

Tourism Ministry states that this year has broken records for tourist arrivals this year as opposed to previous years.
