COVID-19: Daily positive cases top 200; Special Needs Home under lockdown

Malé, Maldives – The daily new Covid-19 cases recorded in the Maldives have surpassed 200 with majority of the cases from the islands.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) informs that of the 225 new cases, 39 cases are from the greater Malé area while 153 are from the islands and 33 from operational resorts.

Of the 153 cases from the islands, K. Guraidhoo Health Center reports that 88 new cases recorded yesterday are from the island.

Statistics show that 6 Covid-19 patients in Guraidhoo are hospitalized from the total 108 Covid-19 cases in the island.

The majority of samples taken yesterday belonged to HPSN with 83 samples from the staff and 178 patients residing at the home.

Guraidhoo which also houses the Maldives Home for Persons with Special Needs (HPSN) is now under monitoring. Effective 18:00 last evening HPSN has

been placed under lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Maldives has 1520 active cases with 19 hospitalizations. Covid-19 fatalities in the island nation remains at 240.
