COVID-19 situation escalates in the islands with 173 new cases

Malé, Maldives – Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) informed today that the number of islands under monitoring for the Covid-19 virus has increased to 23 with 173 new cases recorded from inhabited islands in the past 24 hours.

The newest island to go under monitoring status is Sh. Goidhoo with 15 new positive cases tested from the island yesterday.

In addition to Addu City, F. Nilandhoo, L. Gan, Sh. Feevah, B. Thulhaadhoo, B. Goidhoo, N. Holhudhoo, M. Mulah, N. Kendhikulhudhoo, K. Guraidhoo, Sh. Funadhoo, M. Dhiggaru, GA. Kolamaafushi, N. Miladhoo, K. Huraa, M. Muli, N. Manadhoo and Sh. Goidhoo are under monitoring status at present.

Meanwhile, the total number of new cases recorded as of yesterday were 219 , with 17 cases recorded in the Greater Malé area and 173 in the inhabited islands. 17 cases were recorded from operational resorts in the Maldives.There are 1,981 active cases in the country from 4,069 sampled tested in the past 24 hours. 33 Covid-19 patients are being treated in the hospitals.

Maldives has recorded a total number of 88,277 Covid-19 cases, of which 1,981 are currently active. To date, 86,040 patients have made full recoveries. The country has recorded 244 Covid-19 related fatalities.
