Fuvahmulah City, Maldives – The Vice President of Maldives Faisal Naseem arrived in the southern city of Fuvahmulah this morning on a four day trip to Fuvahmulah and Addu City.
The initial leg of the Vice President’s trip began at Fuvahmulah City where he met with the City Council and key stakeholders.
The last leg of the Vice President’s trip is to Addu City where he will meet the City Council and other key stakeholders, make institutional visits and commence training programmes in the city.
The Vice President met with the members of the Fuvahmulah City Council, late this morning. The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the Fuvahmulah City Council, as part of the Vice President’s current visit to Fuvahmulah and Addu cities.
Speaking during the meeting, the Vice President noted that the government has several ongoing development projects in Fuvahmulah city and that the objective is to initiate and complete the projects according to the will and needs of the public. He also said that the President pays close attention to the developmental needs and ongoing projects in the city.
The members of the Fuvahmulah City Council relayed several interests from their residents to the Vice President during today’s meeting and extensively discussed solutions to the issues faced in the city. They discussed modernised road development and upgrading healthcare services and delved into improving education in the city, including the model school concept and additional educational development. The council members further highlighted the ongoing work at the powerhouse, safety upgrades during disembarking to and embarking from the city, safe access to swimming in the areas around the city and tablet computers for the school children. Councillors also relayed concerns regarding the interruption of transportation services between Fuvahmulah City and Huvadhu Atoll, discussing possible resolutions with the Vice President.
Addressing the concerns raised by the council, Vice President Faisal Naseem affirmed that he would raise the issues with the relevant government agencies and work to find suitable solutions. He also shared the latest updates on the projects the councillors enquired regarding.
A high level delegation accompanies the Vice President on this trip. He will conclude his visit and return to Malé City this Friday night.
