Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor retires after 37 years of service

Malé, Maldives – Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor celebrated retirement after four decades of service in a ceremony at the headquarters of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on Thursday.

The President’s medal and letter for retirement from national service was presented to BG (Rtd) Zakariyya Mansoor by Minister of Defence Mariya Didi. BG Mansoor also received honours from the incumbent Chief of Defence Force (CDF) Major General Abdulla Shamaal and Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef.

BG (Rtd) Zakariyya Mansoor joined the Maldives National Defence Force on 13 March 1984 and has held a number of celebrated positions, service in the Maldives Coast Guard for the longest period of time.

During his 37 years of distinguished service, the General has held various command and staff appointments. The General has served as the Commandant of MNDF Coast Guard and held posts at various echelons in the Coast Guard during his professional career. His earlier command appointments include the Director General of MNDF Coast Guard, Commanding Officerof Quarter Master Services, Regional Headquarters – S.Gan, Regional Headquarters – Hulhule and Regional Headquarters – Lh.Madivaru. General Mansoor has been a key figure in leading Maldives Coast Guard through the rapid transformation and restructuring.

In 2014, General Mansoor graduated from the United States National Defence University with a Master of Arts in Strategic and Security Studies.The General is also a graduate of the United States Naval Staff College and has also completed Midshipman Course at Royal Naval College, (UK) as well. He has also completed US Coast Guard International Maritime Officers Course, (USA), International Riverine and Coastal Operations Course, (USA), Coast Guard Training Course, (UK), Oil Spill Clearance Course, (UK), Basic Staff Course, (Pakistan), International Search and Rescue Course, Australia, and Maritime Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator Course, (China). He is also a fellow of the Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies, (Honolulu, Hawaii).

Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor was appointed as the Director General, National Counter Terrorism Centre at the Ministry of Defence and National Security on 21st April 2016 and served in this position until his retirement.
