Sri Lankan Court sentences Maldivian to life imprisonment

Sri Lanka – Colombo High Court on Friday sentenced a Maldivian man to life imprisonment for a drug-related offence.

The Maldivian man arrested in 2016, was sentenced to life in prison for possessing 256 grams of heroin.

The man was arrested on 11 April 2016 in Bambalapitiya by Sri Lanka’s Police Narcotic Bureau with another man of Pakistani origin.

The other suspect who was also charged with the same offences was acquitted of all charges and set free.

Sri Lankan media reports that the two suspects are a part of a drug network that operates between, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
