Civil Court issues bench arrest warrant for DRP leader MP Jabir

Malé, Maldives – The Civil Court of Maldives has released a bench warrant for the arrest of DRP leader MP Abdulla Jabir on 1 February 2022.

The court released a bench warrant for MP Jabir after he was absent from a hearing regarding unpaid dues by political party DRP to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The case is regarding around MVR 1 million spent by former DRP leader Maumoom Abdul Gayyoom for a campaign trip in 2008.

MP Jabir further stated that he is not in hiding.

The incumbent DRP leader also added that since DRP is not a revenue-generating business, the persons who created the expenses must pay the dues.

MP Jabir was previously arrested in December 2021 regarding another civil case.
