Malé, Maldives – The Ministry of Tourism today stated that the Maldives has set a new daily record for the highest number of tourist arrivals on a single-day on 12 February 2022.
Tourism Ministry stated that 7668 tourists arrived in the island nation yesterday making it the highest recorded arrivals since the borders reopened in 2020.
The Ministry of Tourism revealed that to date Maldives recorded 189,734 arrivals in 2022. This is an increase of 46.4 percent compared to the same time period in 2021 where 129,576 tourist arrivals were recorded. However, this is an decrease of 17.2 percent compared to the pre-pandemic period of 2019 where 229,095 tourist arrivals were recorded.
The top source market for tourist arrivals is Russia covering 16.2 percent of arrivals. The UK follows second with 11.3 percent arrivals while India stands at third with 8.3 percent tourist arrivals. Other source markets for the Maldivian tourism industry include Germany, Italy, France, US, Ukraine, Australia and Saudi Arabia.
