Malé, Maldives – The Foreign Ministry of Maldives released a statement on Tuesday warning Maldivians against travelling to Ukraine amid the threat of war.

Maldivians currently residing in Ukraine must register at the nearest diplomatic mission [located in Germany].

The Ministry also urged all Maldivians in Ukraine to strictly follow all guidelines and protocols by the Ukraine Government.

The Speaker of the Maldives Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has tweeted earlier today saying that “the situation over Ukraine is very worrying,” and urged the government to be mindful of the possible impacts in terms of tourist arrivals.

A group of 34 students in Kharkiv, Ukraine, have urged the Maldivian government to evacuate them as the city is the nearest to the Russian border.

Foreign Ministry statement reads that the Ministry is “monitoring the developing situation in Ukraine very slowly.”
