Maldivian businesswoman detained in India regarding drug case

India – Local news reports that a Maldivian woman (58) was arrested on Saturday at the Cochin International Airport in India in relation to drugs.

The veteran businesswoman with 10 years of experience travels to India regularly for procurement purposes according to family. She was arrested by Indian Immigration at Cochin International Airport under a “lookout” from Mumbai Police.

She is now detained for an investigation by the Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under suspicion of importing large amounts of drugs into the Maldives after drugs were found at the company from which the Maldivian businesswoman imports products.

The woman has previously rejected an offer to transport boxes from the same company into the Maldives and has no connection to the drugs according to the family.

Authorities have not released any official statements regarding this case.
