President dissolves Commission Inquiring into Child Rights Violations

Malé, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday dissolved the “Presidential Commission to Inquire into Child Rights Violations.”

As per Presidential Decree No. 2/2022, the commission was dissolved following the conclusion of its mandated duties and responsibilities.

The commission was formulated on February 20, 2020, to safeguard and ensure the protection of the rights of children and to expedite systematic efforts of rectification. It was also mandated with identifying and analysing the root causes of all forms of violations against children, the current situation of victims and the accountability of state institutions in undertaking their responsibilities.

The Commission was established to analyse and prepare a comprehensive assessment of findings into child rights infringements and submit their detailed report to the President. The report would consist of legal safeguards provided by or under any law for the protection of child rights and recommended measures for effective implementation.
