Scholarships announced to train specialist doctors for regional hospitals including AEH

Malé, Maldives – The Ministry of Higher Education on Thursday announced a scholarship scheme to train 15 super specialists and specialized doctors to serve in 6 regional hospitals including Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH).

The scholarship scheme was announced under the initiative to train human resources based on needs. Ten areas were pinpointed in the health sector.

  • Endocrinology and Diabetic
  • Gastroenterology and Hepatology
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Medical Oncology
  • Pediatric Neurology
  • Rheumatology
  • Surgical Oncology

The seven hospitals that the doctors will be assigned to include Hulhumalé Hospital in the capital city and six regional hospitals; Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH), Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH), L. Gan Regional Hospital, R. Ungooraafu Regional Hospital, M. Muli Regional Hospital and GDh. Thinadhoo Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital.

In addition, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem announced 25 island hospitals to be tendered during the second quarter of 2022 with dialysis centres will be established in all hospitals in the Maldives this year.
