Malé, Maldives – Bank of Maldives (BML) announced yesterday, that projects in HA. Thakandhoo and L. Fonadhoo have been successfully completed as part of the bank’s Community Fund, which focuses on empowering individuals to contribute to society through sustainable community projects.
Under the project, an outdoor reading area at Thakandhoo School was established. The open space at the school premises has now been transformed with huts and bookshelves for students to enjoy. In addition to the library, community bookshelves were also established around the island.
Commenting on the project, Thakandhoo Ekuveringe Rooh commented “Prior to this project, students used the school office as a library. Our aim was to provide a space both for students to read books and to use for outdoor class activities. We will be organizing an island wide book donation campaign to add more books to the outdoor library and community bookshelves.”
Under the BML Community Fund, L. Fonadhoo also established an outdoor reading area at the school premises. The space will be utilized by students of Laamu Atoll Education Centre. The space is designed with bookshelves, seating area and tables.
Commenting on the project, project winner Fathimath Shaheedha, from Parent Teacher Association of Laamu Atoll Education Centre commented, “This is a much-needed space that will help instill the love for reading among students.”
The Community Fund is a program to empower individuals and NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects. As of today, the Bank has provided financial assistance for 65 projects across the country through this Fund.
