More than 2,400 tonnes of goods delivered to Addu ahead of Ramadan

Addu City, Maldives – More than 2,400 tonnes of good have been delivered to Addu ahead of Ramadan.

The good were shipped to the southern most city of Maldives on “Bonthi 2′, which harboured at Hithadhoo port on Sunday.

Among the 2,439.334 tonnes of goods included 70.88 tonnes of project cargo and 1,000 bags of cement, in addition to perishable goods.

This includes 8,593 cases of eggs, 7,940 sacks of onion and 2,525 potato sacks. Other food includes:

  • 340 sacks of cabbage
  • 348 sacks of tomato
  • 170 bunches of bananas
  • 24 sacks of pumpkin
  • 980 sacks of watermelon
  • 100 sacks of pumpkin

Chief Manager of Hithadhoo Port, Ibrahim Rasheed said that all perishable goods in the shipment got cleared by Monday. He also added that most of the good that were brought for State Trading Organisation (STO), although there were good brought by other Addu businesses ahead of Ramadan.

As food consumption generally increases during Ramadan, MPL highlighted that this food shipment is significantly bigger than most shipments.
