Addu City Maldives – Aminath Dhiye (Aimindhatha) arrested in connection to the Addu City child sex abuse scandal is being released due to insufficient evidence.
Police released a statement today that the 59 year old janitorial school has been released as the Prosecutor General’s Office has decided to not press charges due to lack of evidence.
The arrest had spurred multiple protests in Addu City by residents who claimed that Aminath Dhiye was framed for a crime she did not commit.
Earlier this week the Maldives High Court upheld Dhiye’s remand order passed by the Addu Hithadhoo Magistrate Court.
The Human Rights Commission of Maldives and Parliament Human Rights Committee are also investigating the case.
