Malé, Maldives – President of opposition party PNC Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) stated on Thursday that the presidential decree outlawing “India Out” movement violates the Maldives constitution and the opposition will file the case in court.

Abdul Raheem stated that the opposition will move to nullify the decree released earlier today through the court since it goes against the Maldives constitution.

In addition to members of the opposition coalition, MP for Kendhoo constituency Ali Hussain has also criticized the move stating that a decree cannot inhibit or stop the freedom of expression granted to the citizens by the Maldives constitution.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday gazetted a decree to outlaw the India Out campaign after the opposition lead campaign to remove Indian military from the Maldives was deemed a threat to national security by the National Security Council.
