EPA questions Mayor Nizar regarding unauthorized development of Addu Picnic Zone

Addu City, Maldives – The Director-General of Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Ibrahim Naeem on Saturday sent notice to the Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar regarding the unauthorized groundwork conducted for the Addu Picnic Zone.

In a letter to the Mayor, EPA asked for detailed explanations regarding the digging and removal of vegetation in Rujjehere. EPA received reports of major environmental damage to the shoreline in the development of the picnic zone. The Mayor is to answer before 12:00 on Wednesday.

Addu Picnic Zone is being developed off the link road, south of the Addu Waste Management Center, in a joint partnership between Addu City Council, Friends Club and private company BTEK.
