Malé, Maldives – Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology stated that the turtle eggs removed from the nest at Sinamalé bridge were hatched and released successfully on Thursday.

76 percent of the hatchlings were released successfully into the sea.

The statement read that due to rough weather, the staff at the turtle sanctuary and rehabilitation centre in Four Seasons Kuda Huraa Resort were unable to capture videos and photos of the event.

The Ministry thanked Four Seasons Resorts, the Maldives Police Service, Marine Savers and ORP for their cooperation in saving the turtles.

A sea turtle swam ashore at the beach near the Sinamalé bridge for a second time at 21:00 on 16 March 2022 to lay eggs. Ninety-six eggs were safely retrieved and relocated to the Four Seasons Kuda Huraa Turtle Sanctuary on the same day.
