Addu MP Rozaina elected as MDP Women’s President in landslide victory

Malé, Maldives – MP for Addu, Meedhoo constituency Rozaina Adam won the Women’s President seat during the MDP internal elections held on Sunday.

MP Rozina who unofficially represented the incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won this seat against Safaath Ahmed Zahir backed by Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

The seat which can only be voted for female members of the ruling party was won by MP Rozaina with 65 percent of the votes while Safaath won 35 percent.

The parliamentarian won majority in all the atolls and gained over 70 percent of the votes in six atolls.

The parliamentarian expressed her gratitude to MDP members of both genders and pledged to fulfil her role without excluding anyone.
