Hazardous chemical & waste storage facility to be set up in Addu

Addu City, Maldives – Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology of Maldives on Monday has signed with a private company to establish an interim hazardous chemicals and waste storage facility in Addu City.

The agreement was signed between the Ministry and Nooradheen Investment at Addu City Council, to establish the facility for MVR 1.4 million within four months. Minister Shauna and Ali Nooradheen signed the agreement on behalf the parties they represented.

The Ministry said that with the commencement of operating this facility, two equipments in Addu City that contains polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and 16 current formers in Fuvahmulah City can be safety stored in the facility prior to being transported abroad to be eliminated in an environmentally friendly manner.
