Singapore – Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday released a statement in response to media queries confirming that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been granted entry into Singapore. However he was not granted asylum.
Singapore Foreign Affairs statement: It is confirmed that Mr Rajapaksa has been allowed entry into Singapore on a private visit. He has not asked for asylum and neither has he been granted any asylum. Singapore generally does not grant requests for asylum.
Sri Lankas disgraced president Gotabaya Rajapaksa departed the Maldives on a Saudi Airlines flight bound for Singapore earlier this afternoon.
