Malé, Maldives – Maldives Meteorological Center has issued a white alert for a large area of Maldives and has cautioned of rough weather expected today.

The Center detailed that atolls spanning from Haa Alifu to Thaa Atoll are under white alert caution until 14:30 of today during which showers of rain are expected with a wind speed of 22-27 miles per hour, going as high as 45 miles during storms. Seas are also expected to be rough.

Maldives has experienced rough weather during the past two months with many islands experienced storm surges and flooding. Addu City in particular, was heavily flooded during yesterday’s rain with many needing assistance from authorities to drain the water from their residences.

Due to the recurring bad weather and subsequent rough seas, sea travellers are advised to exercise caution and take all necessary protective measures during trips.
