Malé, Maldives – Spokesperson of Jumhooree Party (JP) and State Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Ali Solih has been attacked with a sharp object.

While the extent of his injuries are yet to be known, he is currently being treated at Hulhumalé Hospital, local reports say.

UPDATE: Ali Solih was attacked with a blade knife while cruising on his motorcycle in Hulhumalé. The perpetrator is said to have inched towards him before attacking.

Local media reports quote Solih to have said that the perpetrator recited some verses of the Quran before attempting to run the blade across his neck, and that the knife missed his neck and slit part of his arm and shirt because he had increased the speed of the vehicle at that moment.

He also said that he had to get off the motorcycle and run away in order to escape.

This is a developing story.
