Malé, Maldives – Drugs worth MVR 1 million, that were being smuggled into the country via Maldives Post has been seized.
Maldives Customs said that the discovery was made when searching through items imported into the country via Post, when a parcel with suspicious items were further inspected.
Preliminary testing of the drugs proved the substance to be mephedrone – a synthetic mood-altering drug with stimulant properties.
The total weight of the seized drugs was 526 grams, with a market rate of MVR one million, Customs further revealed.
The drugs have now been handed over to Maldives Police Service, which is currently further investigating the case.
