32 people complete prison-based drug rehabilitation

Maafushi, Maldives – Maldives Correctional Service has released 32 people who completed the first prison-based drug rehabilitation to their families.

The first batch to complete the program carried out at Maafushi prison was reintegrated to the community yesterday and will be closely monitored for a period of one year according to the Correctional Service.

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla and Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamedfulhu attended the ceremony to handover the successful participants to their families and advised all to be exemplary people of the community.

Minister Imran also tweeted later stating that 32 people successfully completing the program was a successful step against the war on drugs.

The program which was kicked-off on March 1, 2022 included detox, education, vocational training, integration modules, medical session and life skill modules. The detox center has been established to the standards of National Drug Agency (NDA) of Maldives.
