Addu City, Maldives – Public Interest Law Centre has announced to host a Legal Aid Clinic in Addu City on September 16.
The Legal Aid Clinic will be set-up at City Square in Hithadhoo from 1600hrs to 1800hrs this Friday.
PILC’s lawyers will provide free legal aid to persons who attend the clinic on matters of employment, land, civil, domestic violence, family and other civil and family law related matters.
In addition to this, a legal awareness session will also be conducted at City Council Hall from 2030hrs to 2230hrs on the same day, which will focus on procedures to follow when filing cases in local courts and tribunals, as well as on employment rights.
This event will be hosted in collaboration with Maldives Trade Union Congress (MTUC).
PILC has successfully conducted legal aid clinics in variousislands in B, Ha, HDh, GDh, ADh, Th, Gn, F, L and Lh and encourages the public to visit the Legal Aid Clinics.
PILC is a non-governmental organization founded by a group of lawyers with the goal of improving access to justice in the Maldives by providing legal aid and pro bono legal services to economically and socially marginalized individuals and groups.
The NGO has been publicly recognized for empowering individuals and civil society through awareness programs, capacity building programs and strategic litigation. PILC hasalso facilitated and encouraged law reform by identifying statutes, regulations and areas of law that needed reform and lobbying the legislature and relevant government authorities to encourage such reform.
PILC is primarily focused on areas of public interest, such as employment, human rights, civil rights and liberties, social welfare, government accountability, and legal reform.
