Foreign Secretary of India arrives in Maldives

Malé, Maldives – Foreign Secretary of India Vinay Mohan Kwatra has arrived in Maldives on a three day official trip.

Indian Foreign Secretary’s trip to Maldives is on the invitation of his Maldivian counterpart, Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vinay Mohan Kwatra will call upon President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

He is also set to hold meetings with Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail and Minister of Defence Mariya Didi during the visit.

In the Foreign Secretaries meeting, both countries are set to discuss ongoing collaborations between both governments and review progress, on ongoing projects under Indian development assistance to Maldives.

This is the Indian Foreign Secretary’s first visit to the Maldives, since assuming office in May 2022.

Since 2018, India has significantly stepped up its aid to Maldives in response to concerns about China’s growing influence under the previous government. India is funding several key developmental projects in the island nation since the current administration took office.
