Over MVR 2.5 million raised for Pakistani flood victims

Maldives – “Help Pakistan” telethon organized to help the flood victims of Pakistan has raised MVR 2.5 million.

The telethon organized by ”Pakistan Maldives Friendship Association” in association with High Commission of Pakistan in Maldives and some local media’s kicked-off yesterday morning at 8:00.

Officials from PMFA told local media that people had paid cash in Malé and other islands and also through online transfers. In addition to the telethon, PMFA is also planning to raise money through sale of food items and a cultural show.

Torrential monsoon rains between July 11 and August 26 triggered the most severe flooding in Pakistan’s recent history, washing away villages and leaving around 33 million in need of assistance and at increased risk of waterborne diseases, drowning and malnutrition.
