Customs busts drug smuggler with MVR 6 million worth heroine

MAL´E, MALDIVES – Maldives Customs Service on Thursday announced that a man carrying large amount of drugs into the country was intercepted at the airport. Authorities have since confirmed that the drug is heroine.

Customs further revealed that the man is of Pakistani descent and was travelling from Pakistan to Maldives, carrying the drugs in his luggage. The 53 year old man was stopped and searched after officers grew suspicious of his activities inside the airport.

The total weight of the drugs is reported to be 4.9 kilograms, with a street value of about MVR 6 million. In order for the case to be further investigated, Customs has handed over the drugs to Maldives Police Service.
