Critically unwell seaman from foreign vessel transported to AEH

Addu City, Maldives – A seaman travelling from a foreign bulk carrier who fell critically sick at sea had to be transported to Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) for treatment this morning.

The 27 year old sea crewman was aboard MV LADY MIRAF en route to Singapore from Mauritius when he got unwell. Maldives National Defence Forice (MNDF) stated that initial contact about the patient was made with Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Center sometime around Friday evening.

Following the coordination, the ship travelled towards Addu City and upon reaching three miles north from Gan, MNDF Southern Area Coast Guard Squadron’s Harbour Craft travelled to the ship to provide assistance around 11:25 last night.

With the assistance of MNDF Southern Area Coast Guard’s 4th Squadron, the patient was evacuated to AEH around 12:15 last night.

The condition of the patient since being transported to the hospital is unknown.
