Maldives records four separate deaths in the past 24 hrs

Addu City, Maldives – Four separate deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours.

00:30 – A young man died in a road accident after his motorcycle skidded into a wall in Addu City. The victim is identified as Mohamed Althaf (24). He was declared dead on arrival by the Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH).

07:20 – A man fishing at the Izzuddin harbour in the capital city Malé accidentally fell into the sea. Ibrahim Rasheed (59) was rescued by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) who administered emergency CPR. Rasheed was declared dead at IGMH.

11:59 – A 3 month old baby passed away at the Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in GDh. Thinadhoo. Health Protection Agency (HPA) informs that despite the baby testing positive for Covid-19, the cause of death was unrelated. A foreign doctor working at the hospital has since been suspended.

18:35 – An 87 year old Covid-19 positive Maldivian male receiving treatment at the Addu Covid Management Facility passed away.

In addition to these deaths, the island nation has reported an alarming number of sea accidents with varying levels of injuries and deaths in the past few days due to the Southwest monsoon.
