Malé, Maldives – Supreme Court Secretary General Dr. Hussain Faiz has been sacked by the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA).

Faiz was under suspension from March of this year onward on the charges of spying on Supreme Court justices until he was fired from the position.

The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) said it decided to remove him from the post because his actions were in violation of the code of conduct for judicial employees and the rules of state budget expenditure.

The DGA said Faiz had installed CCTV cameras inside the Supreme Court to monitor the activities of judges and staff claiming to strengthen the security of the court. DJA also said that he had a live feed of the cameras in his room and used it to spy of the justices and staffs of the court.

Additionally Over MVR 200,000 was spent on the installation of the cameras without preparing a statement of requirement as required by the state finance regulation and it was done against the objective of maintaining security, the DJA said.

Faiz was appointed as the Secretary General of the Supreme Court on January 7, 2019.
