UPDATE: Fire leaves 10 dead in Malé, more believed to be trapped!

Malé, Maldives – Fire which broke out in a garage in Malé City has resulted in 10 deaths, reports Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

The garage which caught fire is located at the corner junction of Iskandhar Road and Koarukendi Road in Malé City.

Fire and rescue personnel were on the scene after receiving a call about the fire at 12:30 a.m. The fire was brought under control at 4:34 am, the army said.

MNDF said nine people were missing from the house where the incident occurred.

The nine have now been found, eight of whom have died and the ninth is being treated at the IGMH, the army said.

At the same time, the building is being searched for more people.
