Malé, Maldives – President’s Office announced Thursday that the official function to mark Republic Day had been rescheduled.

The function was earlier scheduled for Thursday, November 10, 2022. It will now be held at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022, in Dharubaaruge.

The decision follows the tragic fire incident in Iskandhar Magu, Maafannu Ward, Malé City, earlier on Thursday morning, which resulted in the loss of life and damage to property.

A fire that broke out at a garage in capital city killed 10 people, with authorities still searching for survivors through the debris of the burnt down building.

The fire broke out at a ground floor garage at M. Nirufehi around 12:30am.
