Malé, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, will be officially handed over the presidential ticket for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on Friday night.
In the most competitive primary ever held in the MDP, President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih secured the presidential ticket against party President Mohammed Nasheed with 62 percent of the vote.
According to the final results, Nasheed received 15,641 votes. President Solih received 24,566 votes.
After his defeat in the MDP presidential primary, Speaker Nasheed has launched a separate political movement within the MDP called “The Revival of an Ideology”. He said he would not stop this work even if the party asked him to do so.
Nasheed also has said he will not be with President Solih in the presidential election.
After the primary, the president said the results ended the party’s internal rivalry. Then they should come out as one to win the presidential election, he said.
He said he would win the presidential election easier than the primary. The reason is that the MDP has always worked with the same mindset to bring about rights and development, he said.
