Fitr Zakat will be accepted next Thursday onward

Maldives – The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that this year’s Fitr Zakat will be accepted from Thursday.

The amount for Zakat that has to be paid per individual is money worth 2.4 kg of the type of rice grain used by the person.

  • Regular rice – MVR 12
  • Thai white rice – MVR 84
  • Red rice – MVR 99
  • Basmati rice (regular) – MVR 84 
  • Basmati rice (mid-range) – MVR 100
  • Basmati rice (high-end) – MVR 125
  • Regular flour – MVR 12
  • Whole wheat (Atta) flour – MVR 75

The ministry said that this year’s Fitr Zakat will be accepted from the first day of Ramadan to the 29th of Ramadan. However, the Fitr Zakat can be paid through the Bandeyri portal till the last day of Ramadan.

Additionally, zakat can be paid through Dhiraagu Pay, Ooredoo m-Faisaa, Islamic Bank’s Mobile App (Faisaa Pay), BML portal/website and Fahipay app.

For those who wish to pay in cash, Fitr Zakat will be accepted from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm on non-public holidays. In islands other than Malé City, collection and distribution of Fitr Zakat will be arranged by the respective council offices of the islands.

According to the Islamic Ministry, council offices will accept zakat at the price of 2.4 kg of rice available in the islands.

There are 9,041 registered people in the country who are entitled to Fitr Zakat.
