Annual inbound tourist arrival nears 600,000

MAL´E, MALDIVES – The number of tourists that visited Maldives within 2023 has almost reached 600,000 as of this month.

Tourism Ministry revealed the statistics, detailing that 592,605 tourists have arrived in Maldives as of 12th April. This is a 20 percent increase in tourist arrivals within the same period last year, which was 493,878.

So far this year, most visitors into the country are recorded to be from Russia, accounting for 71,989 of the total arrivals this year. This is followed by India and the United Kingdom.

Currently there are 170 resorts operating in the Maldives, totalling the bed capacity of these facilities to 41,241. There are an additional 895 guest houses and 158 safari boats which also cater to tourists, topping up by the bed capacity by another 2,959 beds

Maldives was among the first countries in the world to recover its tourism industry after the Covid-19 pandemic, and has since been making great strides in improving the industry.
