President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to review the amount of financial assistance given to people with special needs and introduce additional allowances.

People with special needs now receive MVR 2,000 per month. This is the first time the allowance, which has been paid for 12 years, is being reviewed.

The decision was taken after discussing a paper submitted by the Gender Ministry and Family and Social Services on the review of financial assistance to people with special needs.

The government will soon announce its decisions on the matter, the President’s Office said.

Parents of such children have complained to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih last year about the low allowance for people with special needs. President had said at the meeting that he would try to find a solution for the issue.
